SQUILLA MANTIS

Squilla mantis found in coastal areas of the Eastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It is species of Mantis Shrimp and also known as “pacchero”.

They are 200 millimeters long and is from the spear group. Squilla mantis color is dull brown with 2 brown eyespots. Spottail mantis shrimp or pacchero digs burrows in muddy and sandy bottoms near parts of eastern Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

Burrows is basically a hole that usually animals dig to create a space suitable for their habitation or temporary refuge. Mantis remains there in burrows or hole during the day and comes to hunt at night.

Life Span of Squilla Mantis

There are different stages in the life cycle of Squilla Mantis and this lifespan is about three (3) years from egg to adulthood. The life cycle consists of an egg stage, then the free swimming stage, larval stage and then cycles to adulthood.

Both Male and Female Mantis Shrimps have to find one another as a mate. Some even travel a great distance to find a partner. Overall their average lifespan is 20 years.
