Information from NatureServe (2003): "Phyllostegia mollis
is a generally recognized endemic Hawaiian species, treated as multi-island
by Wagner et al. (Manual, 1990) and USFWS (1991), but treated
as an O`ahu endemic by Wagner and Herbst (Supplement, 1999). The
Moloka'i and Maui plants
formerly included
in P. mollis were
recognized by Wagner and Herbst (1999) as under the name P. haleakalae,
and later by Wagner (Novon 9: 274-275, 1999) as P. pilosa,
with the name P. haleakalae being considered instead an older
name for the species generally known as P. imminuta". (Ref.
296618).
