According to the Code, (1) an individual from a scientific sample; sometimes an individual regarded as typical of the group. (2) a group of individuals derived by vegetative or asexual multiplication from a single individual and forming a single entity. As in "specimen tree" or "specimen plant". Plants labeled as such are worthy of placement alone in a highly visible site due to the long-term ornamental benefits they provide.
