(Gr. anthos: flower; karpos: fruit) A false fruit consisting of the true fruit and the base of the perianth, as in Nyctaginaceae. A fruit with some portion of the flower besides the pericarp persisting, as in a pome with the fleshy perianth tube surrounding the pericarp. A pseudocarp consisting of the true fruit and the base of the perianth.
