This is some kind of symbiotic creature, each one tiny, tiny wormlike (maybe 1/16 inch), but altogether forming a chain of hundreds which looks, on the surface, like a worm about 6 inches long. It was moving slowly, looking very much like a worm crawling, across our road in Brown County, Texas. It was the strangest living organism I have ever seen (I am 66 years old). We spotted this creature in May 2001. Ideas anyone?

Each white dot is an individual organism.

Well, I can't seem to get any of the .jpg photos inserted in this post. Makes me frustrated...

Ah, VERY interesting! I really hope to see one of these one day, they sound really cool.

Anyway, I'm almost positive it's a fungus gnat migration. You can read about them here: http://entomology.uark.edu/museum/snakeworm.html
