This forum is intended to let our users help each other identify plants and animals from good photos and other submitted info.

Each topic will begin with a set of submitted photos, ideally accompanied with this info:
  • Your best guess about the critter's ID, such as Family or Genus;
  • Location taken (as precise as possible);
  • Date taken;
  • Comments on why you think this critter might be X or might not be Y, with links to ZipcodeZoo pages if this is helpful.

It will be easiest for us to identify a plant or animal if you submit several different good photos, a good movie, or a good sound recording. Good photos will meet these criteria:
  • Sharp, clear image: high resolution (640 wide or more), well-lit, good contrast, with the subject filling the frame;
  • Two photos can be better than one if they show different details or perspective on the subject. For instance, both the topside and underside of a butterfly, or front, back, and side of a bird each contribute to positive identification.

You need not submit a plant or animal for ID in order to participate in this forum. Everyone is encouraged to use their knowledge and resources to help precisely identify the species presented here.

Photos, movies, and sound recordings must be taken by the user uploading them, and must be their intellectual property. If you upload an image, you grant permission to The BayScience Foundation to post the image on the appropriate ZipcodeZoo.com web page, once it has been identified. Your copyright notice will appear beneath the photo, and a special contact page will be created for you, linked to http://zipcodezoo.com/photographers/ and to the caption of the photo used. The photo, movie, or sound recording will remain your intellectual property.
