Physical Description

Adult : Bill: black Legs : Leg Color: black or yellow Wings : Undersides: brown with white patch near tip.Adult Dark Phase : Bill: black Legs: Leg Color: black or yellow Wings: Undersides: brown with white patch near tip.Adult Pale Phase: Head : white to grayish-white Bill: black Neck: white to grayish-white Body: Underparts: white to grayish-white Upperparts: brownish Legs: Leg Color: black or yellow Wings: Undersides: brown with white patch near tip.

Habitat

Vegetation: freshwater marshes, pelagic waters • Foraging Strata: Water • Center of Abundance: Lower subtropical: lowlands, lower than 500 m.; subtropics. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: High

Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 5,308 meters (0 to 17,415 feet).[1]

Ecology: This species is marine and highly pelagic, rarely approaching land except at colonies. Little is known about its diet , though squid and crustaceans have been recorded as prey . The breeding season is variable depending on locality , forming loose colonies on offshore islands, occupying cliffs or slopes with some vegetation3.
