Habitat
Typically found in water with a depth of 0 to -100 meters (0 to -328 feet).[1]
Ecology:
The Fork-tailed Storm-petrel breeds
on offshore islands in grassy
areas, on rocky hillsides or amongst trees
- sometimes far from sea1.
It generally forages
on continental shelves2,3,
foraging
closer to the shore
whilst breeding4.
Despite foraging in nearshore areas, chicks frequently go unfed for
several nights4. Its diet
comprises mainly of planktonic
crustaceans, small fish and squid, and it can feed
on the wing
or
by surface-seizing1.
