Physical Description

Adult : Bill: black Body: Rump : broad white U-shaped band Underparts: blackish-brown Upperparts: dark chocolate-brown Vent : may show some whitish Legs : Foot Color: black toes with yellow webbing Leg Color: black Leg Length: long Notes : yellow, webbed feet Toes: yellowish green webbing between Wings : Flight Feathers: blackish-brown Tail: blackish-brown Shape : squared to slightly rounded.

Size/Age/Growth

About 6 to 7.5 inches long, with a wingspan of 16 to 17 inches. Adults weigh about 1.1 ounces .

Habitat

Vegetation: freshwater marshes, pelagic waters • Foraging Strata: Water • Center of Abundance: Lower subtropical: lowlands, lower than 500 m.; subtropics. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: High

Typically found in the intertidal zone at the water's edge at a mean distance from sea level of 29 meters (94 feet).[1]

Ecology: Wilson's Storm-petrel breeds on rocky islets , on cliffs and amongst boulder scree. It prefers to feed mainly in cold waters over continental shelves or inshore , with a diet of comprised mainly of planktonic crustaceans (especially krill) and fish1. Its diet shifts from mainly crustaceans during egg formation to an increased proportion of fish during chick-rearing and moulting2.
