Habitat

Vegetation: tropical lowland evergreen forest, pine forests, tropical lowland evergreen forest, second-growth forests and woodlands, tropical lowland evergreen forest, mangrove forests • Maximum Elevation: 1,500 meters • Zoogeographic Region: Hispaniola • Foraging Strata: Canopy • Center of Abundance: ? • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium

Ecology: It inhabits lowland and montane wooded regions, where it probably favours old, mature forest2. It is intolerant of degraded habitats or areas opened up by forest clearance2. The diet is mainly fruit and seeds, but also vertebrates and large insects3. It nests high in large trees or palms between the end of February and May2,4.
