Habitat

Vegetation: tropical lowland evergreen forest, pine forests, tropical lowland evergreen forest • Maximum Elevation: 2,000 meters • Zoogeographic Region: o • Foraging Strata: Canopy • Center of Abundance: Middle montane: mountains, middle range, 1,600-2,600 m. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium

Ecology: On Hispaniola, birds are usually seen in small to medium-sized groups, foraging on the ground or in trees for fruit, seeds, insects, snails and lizards4 and, in Haiti, it has even been recorded around local food markets1. However, on Cuba though it formerly inhabited wooded areas from the lowlands to the mountains7 it is now known only from lowland cultivation with scattered groups of palm trees10. Nests are located in stands of tall palms10, with breeding from March-July9,12,13.
