Habitat

Typically found in a lake at a mean distance from sea level of 847 meters (2,779 feet).[1]

Biome: Marine .

Ecology: This species inhabits a wide range of habitats , including swamps , lagoons , flowing streams , and the fringes of the main river including the section of the Upper Zambezi just above Victoria Falls . During the flood season juveniles are abundant in floodplain habitats such as road culverts (Tweddle et al. 2004). Usually found in small shoals near the surface feeding on small invertebrates such as mosquito larvae and daphnia . A serial spawner laying eggs that attach to vegetation (Skelton 2001). Its eggs hatch after 15-20 days and individuals of this species mature within 6 months.[2].

Name Status: Accepted Name .

Comment: Year from Eschmeyer[3]. Valid genus is Micropanchax according to Ghedotti 2000[4].

Taxonomic studies are needed on this species. Specimens from the Mwekera tributary of the Kafue may represent a different species with more lateral line scales (Tweddle et al. 2004). (Ref. 254864).
