Genus Macbrideola

Sporocarps small, stipitate , globose to ovate . Stalk translucent , hollow (trapped air is often seen in liquid mounts ). Columella usually present. Peridium fugaceous or persistent . Capillitium present or absent.

Physical Description

Species Macbrideola dubia

Sporocarps gregareous on a common hypothallus, up to 1 mm tall. Stalk c. 33% of the total height , black by reflected, red-brown by TL , hollow, wall thin, longitudinally striate and dark above, paler and rather vaguely netted below. Sporotheca globose or slightly prolate , dark brown. Peridium totally evanescent . Columella reaching c. the centre of the sporotheca, splitting at the apex into the 2-4 main branches. Capillitium lax , attenuate to the periphery, arising from branches at the columella apex, a few branches also from its side, brown, with small brown expansions, flexuose, with small, dark protuberances , forming 1-2 meshes on the radius, closed on the periphery, with a few short branchlets outwards. Spores pale purplish brown with a slightly paler area, 9-10.5 µm diam., densely verruculose . This sp. is very similar to robust forms of M. oblonga and may be synonymous with that sp.
