Physical Description
Genus Macbrideola :
Sporocarps small, stipitate , globose to ovate. Stalk translucent , hollow (trapped air is often seen in liquid mounts ). Columella usually present. Peridium fugaceous or persistent. Capillitium present or absent.
Species Macbrideola declinata :
Sporocarps solitary to scattered , 0.2-0.35 mm total height. Sporothecae globose , usually smooth , silvery, bronze, or gold-coloured to dark purplish brown, often with metallic reflections and somewhat iridescent , 0.1-0.2 mm diam. Peridium membranous , persistent , the inner surface marked with dark papillae , the base persisting as a small collar. Stalk erect , hollow, pale at the base, becoming progressively
darker red, the upper portion nearly black. Columella dark, reaching to near the apex of the sporotheca. Capillitium arising from the columella apex as 2-4 primary branches, lax , consisting
of purplish brown threads arranged ± at right angles to the columella when short or, when longer , tending to arch downwards and with the tips frequently attached to the peridium. Spore-mass brown. Spores distinctly and unevenly echinulate , 7-8 µm diam. This sp. has many similarities with M . scintillans var. scintillans, especially when the capillitium is reduced.
