Description

Genus Licea

Small, stalked or sessile sporocarps , or narrow plasmodiocarps. Dehiscence of sporocarpous forms by means of platelets or by an operculum , and plasmodiocarpous spp. by a longitudal slit. Spore-mass white or coloured. Many spp. are corticolous .

Physical Description

Species Licea alexopouli

Protoplasmodium colourless. Sporocarps scattered , sessile, hemispherical to subglobose, 0.08-0.13 mm diam., shiny, black, smooth , sometimes becoming wrinkled and impregnated with refuse material on drying. Peridium thick, cartilaginous . Dehiscence either by a preformed lid or irregular. Spore-mass yellow. Spores globose to oval , pale yellow, the wall thick, smooth, 9.5-11 µm diam. Distinguished by its smooth, shiny, black peridium. Licea tuberculata also has a shiny black peridium, but it is strongly tuberculate .
