Physical Description

Species Hemitrichia serpula

Forming plasmodiocarps, often covering several square centimetres, plasmodiocarps terete , branching freely and usually everywhere reticulate , bright yellow, rusty or tawny . Peridium thin, transparent. Dehiscence longitudinal , irregular. Hypothallus similar to the peridium or a little darker, the margins between adjoining segments often separated by a black line . Capillitium variable, forming a tangle of long, yellow tubules , sparingly branched, the free tips spiny , decorated with 3-4 spiral bands which bear spines up to 5 µm long, and traces of longitudinal striae, 4-6(-8) µm diam. Spore-mass golden yellow. Spores pale yellow, globose , coarsely reticulate, the surface between the meshes smooth , 11-16 µm diam. Plasmodium white, then yellow.

Habitat

Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 4,653 meters (0 to 15,266 feet).[1]
