Description
Genus Echinostelium
Small stipitate sporocarps , up to 0.5 mm tall. Spore-mass colourless, pale Emoto 1977 The Myxomycetes of Japan Sangyo Tosho, Tokyo.llow, ochre or pink. Capillitium , if present, not dichotomous. Almost all spp. are corticolous .
Physical Description
Species Echinostelium paucifilum
Sporocarps 225-350 µm tall. Stalk 140-225 µm long, the lower part filled with granular debris , tapered to 2-3 µm diam. at the apex. Sporotheca 45-70 µm diam., pink when freshly matured, pink to pinkish brown when dry. Columella fusiform to cylindrical or tapered, 2-4 µm diam., 12-30 µm tall, tan to dark brown, merging above into the capillitium . Capillitium scanty, arising mainly from the columella apex and dividing 1-4 times, rarely anastomosing. Peridium remaining as a 3-6 µm diam. collar at the base of the sporotheca. Spore-mass pink. Spores pink to hyaline , globose , 11.5-15.5 µm diam., minutely roughened, with a distinctly thinner region, containing one to several protoplasts .
