Genus Echinostelium

Small stipitate sporocarps , up to 0.5 mm tall. Spore-mass colourless, pale Emoto 1977 The Myxomycetes of Japan Sangyo Tosho, Tokyo.llow, ochre or pink. Capillitium , if present, not dichotomous. Almost all spp. are corticolous .

Physical Description

Species Echinostelium lunatum

Sporocarps 20-50 µm tall. Stalk 15-30 µm long, tapered slightly to 1.5-3 µm diam. at the apex. Sporotheca (1-)4-8(-14) spored, pink to pale orange. Columella a tan, 15-30 µm wide, asymmetric structure, often appearing crescent-shaped under the compound microscope. Peridium remaining as a minute collar at the base of the sporotheca. Spore-mass pink. Spores hyaline , globose , 6-13 µm diam., minutely roughened, bearing flat, raised pads at areas of spore-to-spore contact.
