Genus Echinostelium

Small stipitate sporocarps , up to 0.5 mm tall. Spore-mass colourless, pale Emoto 1977 The Myxomycetes of Japan Sangyo Tosho, Tokyo.llow, ochre or pink. Capillitium , if present, not dichotomous. Almost all spp. are corticolous .

Physical Description

Species Echinostelium fragile

Sporocarps 100-150 µm tall. Stalk 60-100 µm long, expanded below and filled with granular matter, tapered to a narrow apex, 1-3 µm diam. Sporotheca 30-50 µm diam., pink when freshly matured, pink to pinkish brown when dry. Columella fusiform to ellipsoid , dark brown, 5-10 µm long, 2-3 µm diam. Peridium persisting as a minute collar , 2-5 µm diam., at the base of the sporotheca. Spore-mass pink. Spores pinkish to hyaline , globose , 11.5-15.5 µm diam., minutely roughened, the wall with a thinner region, each spore having from one to several protoplasts .
