Genus Echinostelium

Small stipitate sporocarps , up to 0.5 mm tall. Spore-mass colourless, pale Emoto 1977 The Myxomycetes of Japan Sangyo Tosho, Tokyo.llow, ochre or pink. Capillitium , if present, not dichotomous. Almost all spp. are corticolous .

Physical Description

Species Echinostelium arboreum

Sporocarps 100-150 µm tall. Stalk tapered slightly upward, containing granular matter in the lower part, 55-110 µm long, the apex 3-5 µm diam. Sporotheca 40-50 µm diam., pale golden yellow to cream. Columella stout, cylindrical, 3-5 µm diam., 19-30 µm long. Capillitium arising from the tip of the columella, branching dichotomously 1-4 times without anastomosing. Peridium persistent , membranous, shiny, clinging to the capillitial tips and remaining as a basal collar 8-12 µm diam. Spore-mass yellow. Spores yellow to hyaline , globose to somewhat angular, (5-)6-9 µm diam., minutely roughened.
