Description
Genus Calonema
Sporocarps either stalked or sessile and then often crowded or heaped. Capillitium of branching tubules which form a network and which may be attached to the base and peridium. Capillitium vaguely decorated with reticulations , irregular rings and/or spirals .
Physical Description
Species Calonema geesinkii
Sporocarps mostly heaped in small clusters , but some free and scattered , sessile, ± irregularly shaped, pulvinate , rounded , somewhat kidney-shaped, ovoid to subglobose, often ± angular from mutual pressure , glossy golden yellow, 0.2-1.2 mm diam. Hypothallus absent. Peridium membranous, smooth , or in parts with dimples corresponding to spore impressions . Dehiscence irregular. Capillitium scanty, strongly birefringent, consisting of some free, rather short tubules , and some tubules attached to one, or opposite sides of the peridium, sometimes branching, sometimes anastomosed and forming a network , the tubules yellow, in part smooth and in part with faint spirals , with occasional thickenings in the form of rings , 3.5-4 µm diam. without the thickenings, the apices rounded, sometimes with 1-2 slender threadlike protuberances . Spore-mass yellow. Spores yellow, 13-15 µm diam. without the border , 16-18 µm diam. including the border, completely banded-reticulate, with irregular meshes, the small meshes sometimes in rows surrounding the larger meshes.
