Genus Calonema

Sporocarps either stalked or sessile and then often crowded or heaped. Capillitium of branching tubules which form a network and which may be attached to the base and peridium. Capillitium vaguely decorated with reticulations , irregular rings and/or spirals .

Physical Description

Species Calonema cornuvioides

Sporocarps sessile, gregarious , ± globose but deformed by mutual pressure , ochraceous to dark brown, shining, 0.4-0.8 mm diam. Hypothallus translucent brown, confluent . Peridium membranous, fragile, shining, smooth within. Dehiscence irregular from above. Capillitium profuse, consisting of branched and anastomosed tubules (3-)4(-5) µm diam., decorated with lax spirals and irregularly spaced broad rings (7-)9(-10) µm diam. and spines. Spore-mass ochraceous. Spores pale yellow, 15-17 µm diam., broken-reticulate with 3-4 meshes across the hemisphere.
