Genus Arcyria

Sporocarps stipitate or sessile but neither pulvinate nor heaped. Peridium completely or partly fugaceous above and leaving a morphologically distinct calyculus which is cup-, funnel- or saucer- shaped. Capillitium a complete network of tubules , variously decorated with cogs, warts , spines, etc.

Physical Description

Species Arcyria insignis

Sporocarps gregarious or clustered or occasionally solitary, stalked . Sporotheca bright rose to flesh-coloured or pale salmon, occasionally fading to yellowish, ovate or cylindric , 0.5-1.5(-3) mm tall. Stalk rather short, 0.2-0.4 mm long, reddish, filled with spore-like cells . Calyculus somewhat pleated , nearly smooth or faintly reticulate within. Capillitium a close network of delicate threads 2-3 µm diam., sometimes with a few bulbous free ends, marked with transverse bands and spines arranged in a loose spiral , in part minutely spinulose to nearly smooth, attached to the calyculus. Spore-mass pinkish. Spores colourless, with a few scattered inconspicuous warts , 6-8 µm diam. Plasmodium watery-white.

Habitat

Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 2,877 meters (0 to 9,439 feet).[1]
