Physical Description

Species Turnera ulmifolia

Weak shrub to 1.5m; 2 conspicuous , prominent glands on leaf stalk ; blades lanceolate, 1.5-8cm long; corolla yellow, petals 1-2cm; fruit 6-10mm splitting , with many 2.5mm seeds each with white fleshy aril. A pantropical weed . Apparently the local name Politicia's flower refers to the opening of the flowers first thing in the morning and closing 2-4 hours later (Howard).
