Genus Scaevola

Herbs or shrubs . Leaves alternate, rarely opposite, entire or toothed . Flowers in dichasial cymes, sessile or pedicellate . Calyx lobes obsolete or conspi¬cuous. Corolla oblique , split to the base on one side; lobes subequal , spreading . Stamens with free anthers . Ovary usually inferior, 2-loculed; ovules l-2 in each, erect ; style simple with pollen cup enclosing a truncate or 2 lobed stigma. Fruit a drupe.

A genus with 80-100 tropical and sub-tropical species; mostly Australian and Polynesian.[1]
