Genus Erodium

Annual or perennial herbs. Leaves lobed or pinnatisect , longer than broad, stipulate . Flowers in cincinnal umbels, rarely solitary or 2. Involucral bracts 2 or more, united or free . Sepals and petals Fertile stamens 5, alternating with 5 staminodes. Ovary 5-lobed, long beaked in fruit. Beak plumose or bristly within on dehiscence. The stylar axis usually spirally twisted below. Mericarps with 2 apical pits.

About 90 species in Europe, Mediterranean region, C. & S.W. Asia, Australia and tropical S. America. Represented in Pakistan by 7 species.[1]
