The miliolids are a group of , abundant in shallow waters such as estuaries and coastlines, though they also include oceanic forms. They are distinguished by producing porcelaneous tests, composed of calcite needles and organic material; the needles have a high proportion of magnesium and are oriented randomly. The test lacks pores and generally has multiple chambers, which are often arranged in a distinctive fashion called milioline.
