Lotus has many definitions. Depending on the context, it may refer to any of the following.

- Nelumbo, the genus of plant colloquially called the lotus
- Nelumbo nucifera, the blue or Indian lotus, also known as the bean of India and the sacred water-lily
- Nelumbo lutea, the American lotus
- Lotus (genus), comprising bird's-foot trefoils and deervetches
- Ziziphus lotus, the date palm (which may have been the "lotus tree" of Greek mythology; see below)
- Nymphaea, the water-lily genus superficially similar to and often confused with the nelumbo lotus
- Nymphaea alba, the European white water-lily or white lotus
- Nymphaea caerulea, the Egyptian blue lily or sacred blue lily, also called the blue or sacred lotus
- Nymphaea lotus, the Egyptian white water-lily or tiger lotus

- Lotus constellation was a stars system, it had for a long time been shining on the horizon to the north, but since its influence was restricted to the northern hemisphere. All this in a cluster of star systems called the Lotus Constellation, 150 or so light years from earth with no chance of getting back and it is not used nowadays.
