Ardisia (Coralberry or Marlberry) is a genus of flowering plants in the family Myrsinaceae (Myrsine family), native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the Americas, Asia, and Australasia. The genus includes about 250 species of small trees, shrubs and subshrubs growing up to 8 metres (26 ft) tall.1][2][3]

One species, Ardisia japonica (Chinese: ???; pinyin: zijin ni?) is one of the 50 fundamental herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. The species Ardisia crenata, with waxy leaves and red berries in drupes, is also known as coral bush, coralberry tree, or spiceberry.
