Anaxagorea

Anaxagorea is a genus of in family Annonaceae. It contains the following species (but this list may be incomplete): [more]

Annona

Trees or shrubs, taprooted; trunks buttressed or not buttressed at base. Bark thin, mostly broadly and shallowly fissured, scaly, fissures anastomosing. Shoots slender, stiff, terete; lenticels raised; buds naked. Leaves persistent or deciduous to late deciduous. Leaf blade leathery or membranous, glabrous to pubescent. Inflorescences axillary or supra-axillary, occasionally from axillary buds on main stem or older stems, solitary flowers or fascicles; peduncle bracteolate. Flowers: receptacle convex to ±globose or elongate, elevated; sepals deciduous, 3(-4), smaller than outer petals, valvate in bud; petals 6(-8) in 2 whorls, usually fleshy, those of outer whorl larger, valvate in bud, those of inner whorl more ascending, distinctly smaller or reduced, rarely absent, valvate or imbricate in bud; nectaries present as darker-pigmented, usually corrugate zones adaxially near petal bases; stamens very numerous, packed into ball, club-shaped, curved; connective dilated, hooded or pointed beyond anther sac; pistils numerous, sessile, partially connate to various degrees with at least stigmas distinct; ovules 1(-2) per pistil; style and stigma club-shaped or narrowly conic. Fruits fleshy syncarps, 1 per flower, usually ovoid to nearly globose, surface variable depending on orientation, structure, and relative connation of pistil apices. Seed usually 1 per pistil, ovoid to ellipsoid, beanlike, coat tough, margins various, narrow. x =7.[1] [more]

Artabotrys

Climbing or erect shrubs, rarely small trees. Indumentum of simple hairs or absent. Flowers bisexual, pedicellate, solitary or in extra-axillary cymes, rarely terminal, mostly the peduncle thick and hooked; bracts and bracteoles small, usually deciduous. Sepals 3, valvate, free or ± united at base, equal or smaller than petals. Petals 6, in two whorls, valvate, subequal, free, usually concave at base and connivent over the stamens and carpels. Stamens numerous, sometimes the outer ones staminodes, linear-oblong or cuneiform; filament very short or absent; anther-cells extrorse, connective-tip dilated, truncate or apiculate. Carpels numerous, free, ovoid or ellipsoid with 2 basal ovules. Monocarps indehiscent, usually fleshy, cylindric or ellipsoid, mostly sessile, 1-2-seeded.[2] [more]

Cananga

Ylang-ylang (IPA: ) (ee-lang ee-lang) Cananga odorata, is a small flower of the tree. It is a fast-growing tree that exceeds 5 meters per year and attains an average height of 12 meters. It grows in full or partial sun, and prefers the acidic soils of its native rainforest habitat. The leaves are long, smooth and glossy. The flower is greenish yellow (rarely pink), curly like a starfish, and yields a highly fragrant essential oil. A related species is Cananga fruticosa, which is a dwarf ylang-ylang that grows as small tree or compact shrub with highly scented flowers. Ylang-ylang has been cultivated in temperate climates under conservatory conditions. Its fruit are an important food item for birds, such as the Collared Imperial-pigeon, Purple-tailed Imperial-pigeon, Zoe's Imperial-pigeon, Superb Fruit-dove, Pink-spotted Fruit-dove, Coroneted Fruit-dove, Orange-bellied Fruit-dove, and Wompoo Fruit-dove (Frith et al. 1976). Trees or shrubs, glabrous or with simple hairs. Flowers mostly bisexual, solitary or in 2-many flowered cymes or fascicles, extra-axillary, axillary or leaf-opposed, occasionally on the trunk. Sepals 3, valvate or slightly imbricate. Petals 6, biseriate, valvate, subequal, often quite large and showy. Stamens mostly numerous, filament very short, cuneiform, connective-tip expanded, truncate or slightly convex. Carpels few to numerous, free, oblong, 1-5 basal or superposed ovules, stigma ± sessile, rectangular, globose or irregularly shaped. Monocarps few to many, indehiscent, ellipsoid, ovoid or subglobose, stipitate or subsessile, 1-5-seeded.[3] [more]

Sometimes called biriba, species of Rollinia are tropical trees that bear round, yellow fruit. They need a warm and humid climate to grow well. [more]
