Distribution: southeastern Spain, Italy, and western Greece. Elongate and attenuate dorsal process of the maxilla; total number of rays in dorsal fin 8-11; scales in lateral line series 28-34. Fertilization external.

It may be found in Freshwater environments and is primarily Sec ondary freshwater. Members of this family are not used in the aquarium trade. Reproductively, most members of this family are nonguarders. The main mode of swimming of adult fish in this family is subcarangiform. This family may be found from 41° n to 36° s and 8° w to 22° e.
