Overview
Hydrobatinae is one of two subfamilies of . The distribution of the subfamily is predominantly in the northern hemisphere. The subfamily contains two (sometimes three) genera in which there are 14 species. They were the first group of storm-petrels to break off from the ancestral petrel stock, and for this reason some authors have suggested that they should constitute a separate family from the Oceanitinae storm-petrels.1]

The Subfamily Hydrobatinae is further organized into finer groupings including:
- Genus (7): Fregetta · Garrodia · Hydrobates · Nesofregetta · Oceanites · Oceanodroma · Pelagodroma
- Species: ZipcodeZoo has pages for 36 species and subspecies in the Subfamily Hydrobatinae.
Genera
Fregetta
Fregetta is a genus of in the Hydrobatidae family. It contains the following species: [more]
Garrodia
The Grey-backed Storm-petrel (Garrodia nereis) is a species of in the Hydrobatidae family. It is monotypic within the genus Garrodia which was named by William Alexander Forbes in 1881 after Alfred Henry Garrod, while the specific descriptor is an allusion to the Nereids, the sea nymphs of Greek mythology. [more]
Hydrobates
The European Storm-petrel or Storm Petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus) is a small of the storm-petrel family, Hydrobatidae, part of the seabird order Procellariiformes. It is the only member of the genus Hydrobates. [more]
Nesofregetta
The Polynesian Storm-petrel (Nesofregetta fuliginosa) is a species of in the Hydrobatidae family. It is in the monotypic genus Nesofregetta. Markedly polymorphic, several subspecies were described, and light birds were even considered a species on their own ("White-throated Storm-petrel"). Not even subspecies are generally accepted today however. [more]
Oceanites
Oceanites is a genus of in the storm-petrel family. It contains the following species: [more]
Oceanodroma
Oceanodroma is a genus of . [more]
Pelagodroma
The White-faced Storm-petrel, Pelagodroma marina also known as White-faced Petrel is a small of the storm-petrel family. It is the only member of monotypic genus, Pelagodroma. [more]
At least 7 species and subspecies belong to the Genus Pelagodroma.
More info about the Genus Pelagodroma may be found here.
