(Gr. kypselê: vase, chest, cup) (pl. cypselae) A dry single-seeded indehiscent fruit (that does not split open during seed dispersal) with an adnate calyx and is formed from a double ovary in which only one ovule develops into a seed; it is similar to an achene and is characteristic of members of the family Compositae (Asteraceae), such as the dandelion.
