While hunting, all vultures ride air currents , using their wings . The Andean Condor, with the longest wingspan of any bird of prey (more than 10') can fly higher, longer , and father searching for food.

Physical Description
Size/Age/Growth
Males: 24-33 lbs ; females: 18-24 lbs. Wingspan: 10 feet or more. Lives to 50 years or more.
Habitat
Windy deserts, mountains, foothills, and coasts.
Vegetation: puna grasslands, arid montane scrubs, arid lowland scrubs, southern temperate grasslands, coastal rocky beaches • Maximum Elevation: 5,000 meters • Foraging Strata: Aerial • Center of Abundance: Upper montaine: mountains, upper range, above 3,600 m. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium
Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 5,093 meters (0 to 16,709 feet).[1]

It is found principally over open grassland and alpine
regions up
to 5,000 m
, descending
to lowland desert regions in Chile and Peru3,4,
and over southern-beech forests
