Comment: Syntypes: ZMB 4714 (2 specimens), ZMB 740, MNHN Lectotype : SMF 10349, from Hermannsburg Mission, upper Finke River , N. T., designated by MERTENS 1967 [Tympanocryptis lineata centralis] Holotype: SAMA R2468a, from S Vic. [pinguicolla] Subspecies and their distribution after COGGER 2000. Tympanocryptis lineata pinguicolla MITCHELL 1948 is considered a full species by most authors now. Named after Latin linea, meaning stripe or line .
