Description
Family Hirundinidae
A Family of birds that is adapted to feeding on flying insects in the air : they have slender bodies, long pointed wings, short bills, strong bills, a wide gape , and great maneuverability and endurance. Their legs are short and their front toes are partially joined, so their walk is awkward, and their feet are better suited to perching.
Physical Description
Adult : Head : Cap: dark blue-green, extending below eye Body: Underparts: white Upperparts: dark blue-greenish Tail: Shape : deeply forked.
Size/Age/Growth
About 5.75 inches long, with a wingspan of 11 to 12 inches. Adults weigh about 0.6 ounces .
Habitat

Ecology: It nests
in natural cavities and old woodpecker holes
in pine Pinus caribaea woodlands5. It also occurs locally in towns and around human habitation, where it nests in artificial cavities and other human structures1. It tends to feed
in open areas such as clearings in woodland, marshes, fields
and along coastlines6. Breeding takes place in April-July1,6. (Ref. 66075)
