Habitat

Ecology: Mainly occurs in the intermediate habitat and sandy shores near rocks. It is a piscivoroe, hunting its prey over the sand . Breeding males are observed throughout the year preferring sandy regions at depths of 20-40 m. Territorial males dig sand castle nests on the sand floor. Mouthbrooding females ascend to shallower intermediate habitats where they release their fry. Known as "Haplochromis woodi" in the aquarium trade. Max . size: 25 cm TL .[3].
