Physical Description

Color:

Considered to be the most colorful wild pigs with reddish brown to black coats .

Size/Age/Growth

Size can range from 120 to 250 pounds . Males are larger, and have facial warts . Life span: 15-20 years.

Habitat

A variety of habitats , usually near a permanent water source.

Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 2,163 meters (0 to 7,096 feet).[1]

Ecology: Typically associated with rainforest and gallery forest , but also found in dry forest, savanna woodland and cultivated areas, although usually in close proximity to the rainforest (Leus and Vercammen in press ). Like the Bushpig, Red River Hogs are highly adaptable and may even benefit from the opening up of former forested areas by the creation of secondary habitats , the provision of cultivated foods, and reductions in the numbers of their natural predators (Vercammen et al. 1993).[2].

Diet

Omnivorous , and will readily kill and eat small animals. Bulk of the diet is fruits, insects, carrion .

Reproduction

One to six striped piglets are born after a gestation period of 4 months.
