The type
locality
of Planaeschna risi risi Asahina (1964)
is Kussha, Taiheizan, Taiwan. Planaeschna risi sakishimana
Asahina, 1964 was described (in the same paper describing the nominate
subspecies
) from the island of Omoto-dake, Ishigaki-Shima, Ryukyus
of Japan near Taiwan. Lieftinck et al.
(1984) consider that
Planaeschna ishigakiana Asahina (1951), also described from
southwestern parts of Ryukyus, is not sufficiently characterised
and differentiated from P. r. sakishimana.[1].
