Size/Age/Growth

About 36 to 50 inches long, with a wingspan of 60 to 60 inches. Adults weigh about 124.8 ounces .

Habitat

Salt lakes and brackish coastal lagoons .

Vegetation: freshwater marshes, coastal waters • Foraging Strata: Water • Center of Abundance: Lower tropical: lowlands, lower than 500 m.; tropics. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium

Typically found in a lake at a mean distance from sea level of 1,141 meters (3,745 feet).[1]

Diet

Small swimming crustaceans, algae, and single-celled organisms . Also worms and seeds of marsh grasses.

Reproduction

Nests on the ground in large colonies. Mate only once ever 2-3 years. Typically lay only one egg , that is incubated for 27-31 days.
