Description
Habitat
Vegetation: elfin forests, polyepis woodlands, semihumid/humid montane scrubs • Minimum Elevation: 3,100 meters • Maximum Elevation: 3,700 meters • Zoogeographic Region: o • Foraging Strata: Canopy • Center of Abundance: Upper montaine: mountains, upper range, above 3,600 m. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium
Ecology:
It is confined to the edge
of the páramo zone in elfin forest
and treeline shrubbery, and open páramo, generally near Polylepis
woodland, at 3,150-3,700 m.
Its ecology is poorly known. A nest
with
one egg
was found in April6. Its main nectar resources
are: Brachyotum spp.
(Melastomataceae), Berberis spp.
(Berberiaceae), and Barnadesia spp.(Asteraceae). It prefers
to forage
near the ground
.
