Description

Physical Description

Habitat

Vegetation: rivers, streams • Minimum Elevation: 1,500 meters • Maximum Elevation: 4,300 meters • Foraging Strata: Water • Center of Abundance: Upper montaine: mountains, upper range, above 3,600 m. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium

Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 5,093 meters (0 to 16,709 feet).[1]

Ecology: The species inhabits mountain rivers and streams of fast-flowing, clear waters, situated at anything from over 4,500 m in the high Andes to sea level in the south of its range (del Hoyo et al. 1992). [2].
