Interesting Facts
- According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Lyme disease is now the most common vector-borne infection in humans in the United States. More than 16,000 cases of Lyme disease were reported to the CDC in 1999. In the eastern and central U. S. the blacklegged tick, often referred to as the deer tick, is the species responsible for transmitting B . burgdorferi to humans and other vertebrate hosts.
