Physical Description

Adult Male: Head : Hood : black Bill: blue-gray Culmen: blackish Curvature: straight Body: Back: black Breast: black in upper area, orange-yellow below Rump : orange-yellow Underparts: orange-yellow Tail: black with orange-yellow patches on ends of outer feathers.

Male: Black head , back, wings and tail · Orange underparts, shoulder , and rump · Orange tips to outer tail feathers · White wing bar and edges · Immature male similar to female but brighter orange with variable amounts of black on head

Female: Brownish-gray upperparts · Dull yellowish-orange breast and undertail coverts · Gray belly · Two wing bars

Size/Age/Growth

About 7 to 8.25 inches long, with a wingspan of 11.25 to 12.5 inches. Adults weigh about 1.2 ounces .

Habitat

A forest edge inhabitant, often found near human habitation.
