Family : Topminnows and killifishes ; Occur in swamps , sloughs , and vegetated backwaters and pools of streams . 7.8 cm max TL [1]. Not a seasonal killifish. Is easy to maintain in the aquarium [2].

Description
Family Fundulidae
Distribution: lowlands of North and Middle America from southeastern Canada to Yucatan, including the Mississippi River drainage , Bermuda and Cuba. Many species euryhaline . Interior (ventral arms of maxillaries directed anteriorly, often with pronounced hooks; maxilla twisted, not straight.The family Fundulidae belongs to the Class Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes ) and the Order Cyprinodontiformes. It contains 5 genera and 48 species. It may be found in Marine , Brackish , and Freshwater environments and is primarily Secondary freshwater. Many members of this family are used in the aquarium trade. Reproductively, most members of this family are nonguarders. The main mode of swimming of adult fish in this family is subcarangiform. Compared with other fish, the activity level of this family tends to be normal. This family may be found from 53° n to 18° s and 120° w to 54° e. Etymology of this family name : Latin, fundus = bottom
