Ecology: This stream-breeding amphibian inhabits low or moderate altitude streams in cloud forest or dry pine-oak forest , and takes refuge in bromeliads .[1].

This species was previously within the genus Hyla but has recently been moved to the resurrected genus Exerodonta (Faivovich et al. 2005).[1].
