Habitat

Vegetation: montaine evergreen forests, tropical deciduous forests • Minimum Elevation: 700 meters • Maximum Elevation: 2,600 meters • Zoogeographic Region: Southern Mexican Highlands • Foraging Strata: Understory/undergrowth • Center of Abundance: Upper tropical: higher slopes, 900-1,600 m.; tropics. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium

Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 5,013 meters (0 to 16,447 feet).[1]

Ecology: It is primarily restricted to cloud-forest and the upper reaches of tropical semi-deciduous forest at 1,300-1,950 m, occasionally wandering (possibly seasonally) to c.700 m on adjacent mountain slopes . It also occurs up to 2,500 m, but at lower densities3. Nesting has been recorded in September-November and May3.
