Description
Physical Description
Size/Age/Growth
Males are commonly 32 cm (Total Length) in length when caught/marketed, but may be as large as 40 cm (Total Length). Females are commonly 45 cm (Total Length) in length when caught/marketed, but may be as large as 60 cm (Total Length).
Habitat
Inhabits inshore waters , among algae. Usually found at depths of 5 to 100 meters.
Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 504 meters (0 to 1,654 feet).[1]

Biology
Diet
Feeds on small crustaceans and fish fry[2].
Reproduction
Females with 1,000 or more ovarian eggs [3]. Ovoviviparous [4]. The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail[4].
