Family : Hakes and burbots ; Sedentary bottom dwellers on muddy sand between patches of hard substrate, or on the soft, smooth ground of deep sinks on the continental slopes of both sides of the North Atlantic. Feeds on flatfishes, amphipods , decapods, copepods , mysids , shrimps, isopods and other small crustaceans. Mixed with soups and other products hot-smoked[1]. Spawns in the Baltic Sea (Ref. 35388).

Physical Description

Species Enchelyopus cimbrius

Males are commonly 30 cm (Total Length) in length when caught/marketed, but may be as large as 41 cm (Total Length).

Habitat

May be found at depths of 20 to 650 meters. Usually found at depths of 20 to 50 meters.

Typically found in water with a depth of 0 to -5,354 meters (0 to -17,566 feet).[2]
