Physical Description

Adult : Head : black with white striping Crest : black Bill: black Curvature: straight Length : long Neck: sooty black Body: Back: sooty black Belly: smoky blue Breast: sooty black Underparts: smoky blue Upperparts: cobalt or purple Tail: cobalt or purple with narrow black bars.

Size/Age/Growth

About 11.5 inches long, with a wingspan of 17 to 17 inches. Adults weigh about 4.5 ounces .

Habitat

Vegetation: tropical lowland evergreen forest, pine forests, tropical lowland evergreen forest, pine-oak forests • Minimum Elevation: 900 meters • Maximum Elevation: 3,600 meters • Foraging Strata: Canopy • Center of Abundance: Upper montaine: mountains, upper range, above 3,600 m. • Sensitivity to Disturbance: Medium
